Heylie Morris Original Artwork

Born and based in Geelong, Heylie Morris’ works are an intrepid intertwinement of provoking animal and people portraiture, depicted against a backdrop of softly feminine colour compositions. Highly symbolic in their nature, many of Heylie’s animalia portraits encapsulate her enduring love of native Australian birds, exotic felines and wild mammals, and are an artistic manifestation of power, strength and resilience. Intermittently combined with these portrayals are gallant and self-possessed female figures, who personify many of the bold and commanding qualities of their animal counterparts. Delineating physical vigour with primal instincts, her works bestow viewers with an undeniable and deep-seated sense of liberty and personal empowerment.

Heylie’s unique brand of artistry began with the experimentation of unconventional imagery depictions and colour collaborations, and evolved steadily over a number of years. Deciding to merge acrylics with oils, and progressively integrate a more substantial amount of mixed media, her works amalgamate intricate detailing with loose expression. Many of the colourations she incorporates are inspired by current cultural trends and are representative of contemporaneous style. Whilst the anatomy of Heylie’s art is primarily conceptual, her portraitures portray many of the naturalistic attributes of her subjects, resulting in works that sway the line between abstract and realism.
