Karen Cavania Original Artwork

Growing up in London within an artistic family—her grandfather a Royal Academician— Karen Cavania was immersed in creativity from an early age. Always with a pencil in hand, she spent her childhood sketching, capturing the light and colors of her surroundings. Now based in Geraldton, Western Australia, her inspiration is drawn from the breathtaking landscapes around her: the ever-changing beaches, the shifting moods of the ocean, the vibrant skies, and the colorful wildflower fields. Nature’s palette is her muse, providing an endless source of creativity.

For Karen, painting and creating are more than just passions—they are her sanctuary. It is in these moments, hands covered in colour, that her thoughts float freely. To her, colour is both joy and challenge—playful yet demanding, beautiful yet complex. Her intense attention to detail, her love for texture and colour, and her boundless creative curiosity are her superpowers.

At 52, Karen experienced a profound self-discovery when she was diagnosed with ADHD. What she once perceived as flaws—her social shyness, reservedness, and intricate attention to detail—revealed themselves to be her greatest gifts. Embracing her neurodiversity allowed her to fully lean into her creativity, celebrating her unique perspective and voice.

In her work, Karen finds beauty in imperfection. She is captivated by the authenticity of human touch—a thumbprint on a ceramic vase, a drip on a canvas, or a crack in pottery. To her, these subtle flaws are echoes of the creator’s presence, a moment in time forever captured. They tell stories of creation shaped by her own hands, celebrating the allure of imperfection and the character of texture.

With work exhibited both locally and internationally, Karen is humbled by the thought of her creations finding their place in someone’s forever home. Whether wielding a brush, palette knife, or clay, her heart sings, never quite in tune, but always with joy.
